Hi! I’m Danny, a 21-year-old student from Northern Ireland. I’m currently studying for a degree in Computer Science at the University of Bristol. For whatever reason, I decided to spend the third year of my course studying abroad at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (or HKUST for short). From late August 2016 to June 2017, I will be living and studying in Hong Kong!
Why Hong Kong? Well, I’m not entirely sure, to be honest. I’ve never been to Hong Kong before, and I don’t speak a word of Cantonese. The only real answer I can think of is because it looked cool. I suppose I wanted to spend a year somewhere very different to the UK. Somewhere exotic, somewhere challenging. Somewhere I’ll experience something new every day without even trying. With its beautiful scenery, impressive skyline and reputation for delicious food, I guess Hong Kong just stood out.
I’m writing this blog for two main reasons: Firstly, to keep my friends and family updated about all the stupid stuff I get up to here. Better this than spam Facebook I think. And secondly, to offer tips and advice to anyone considering studying abroad in Hong Kong. Hopefully, my perspective will be useful to someone.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you enjoy this blog! Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org about anything. Cheers!
